The
Galveston Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with Houston Galveston Area Council
and TXDOT, is participating once again with a reduction in drunk driving
initiative aimed at reducing crashes involving serious injury or death.
Each
year, thousands of dollars are awarded to state and local agencies that are
dedicated to reducing injuries and deaths on Texas highways by strict
enforcement of traffic violations and impaired driving investigations. This
year is no different, and County officials report an increased number of DWI
related arrests in Galveston County, including the Bolivar Peninsula.
Last
year, this program produced 86 DWI arrests during the 2017 enforcement periods.
This year, due to increased participation, Galveston County Sheriff’s officials
report that number to have more than doubled. Stats in the reduction of violent
crashes attributed to alcohol impairment are still being calculated but have
shown a decrease in occurrences.
The
enforcement period for the 2018 Thanksgiving Holidays will run from November 15
through November 27 and will focus primarily in “hot spots” or zones where an
increase in crashes related to excessive drinking were shown last year through
Data Driven enforcement modules.
The
Galveston Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Henry Trochesset thank you for
remembering to Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.
