State alcohol regulators filed administrative sanctions Friday
against a Galveston bar whose employees are accused of serving alcohol
to a patron later arrested in a fatal drunk driving crash.
The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission filed
the case Sept. 21 against The Island Pier Club in Galveston, according
to a news release. Two of the restaurant's employees, Shafay Look and
Jon Ward, allegedly served alcohol to bar patron Gerilynn Weberlein June
4, despite signs that she was intoxicated.
After she left the bar and drove off,
Weberlein allegedly hit two bicyclists, one of whom later died from his
injuries. According to authorities, Weberlein's blood-alcohol content
was 0.103 at the time of the crash, well above the legal limit of 0.08.
