Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 1400 Congress about 10:30 a.m. on Sunday (May 13).

The identity of the male victim, 26, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant K. Harris and Officer J. Perrotte reported:

Witnesses stated the driver of a blue Hyundai Sonata was traveling westbound on Congress when she changed lanes and then ran the red light at a high rate of speed.  The vehicle left the roadway, drove up onto a curb and struck the victim, a pedestrian.  The car continued on and struck a building.  Paramedics transported the victim to St. Joseph Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The driver sustained two broken ankles and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital.

No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation is continuing.
