MEDIA RELEASE
UPDATE Coach Manny:
Earlier this month we had asked the media and the public for help in the case of Juan Corona also known to people as Coach Manny. The case had broke after one of Coach Manny’s players had come forward to tell her parents that Coach Manny gave her alcohol. At the time there were two girls in the vehicle that were given alcohol.
When the parents of the girl that came forward shared the information with the other girls parents is when the other female juvenile told her parents that not only had she received alcohol but that Coach Manny had been sexually assaulting her. Thank you to the media for getting our story out and it resulted in finding more victims.
We have a total of three victims that have come forward. One victim was interviewed and information was obtained from an ongoing sexual assault that occurred over the course of many years starting when the victim was 12 years old back in 2002. There has been evidence that was recovered on search warrant from Coach Manny’s house in The Woodlands that corroborated the victim’s statement including video and photos.
We have found video of one of the sexual assaults. Since our last update there has been another victim that come forward that Coach Manny had sexually assaulted while Coach Manny was at a previous employer and the juvenile was a volunteer. This victim at the time had attempted to make an outcry of the sexual assault but Coach Manny was able to convince people that she was just a rebellious teen and that she was lying.
When she saw that other victims had come forward she called our agency to report what had happened to her. At this time there have been 7 charges filed against Juan Corona AKA Coach Manny. Four counts of Sexual assault of a child, one sexual assault, one sexual performance of a child and one count of aggravated sexual assault of a child.
There is a fourth victim that has been identified and detectives are currently conducting interviews that may lead to additional charges. I want to again thank our partners in the media for getting this word out, they have played an active role in finding these victims and giving them the justice and assistance they deserve.
I want to commend the strength of the victims that have come forward for not only themselves but to give confidence to other victims that they are not alone and can come forward.
