Texas City Police Officers Arrest 35-year-old Quang Van Mai of Galveston, Texas after vehicle pursuit that ends in the 2800 block of 19th Street North of Texas City. Mai, who is wanted for stealing a police vehicle on the Dike Monday, January 15, 2018. The arrest came about after Mai robbed a female for her vehicle at gunpoint in the parking lot of Sunset Mobile Home Park located at 634 N. Pine Road in Texas City.
Mai is charged with Aggravated Robbery, bond $160,000 and Felony Evading, bond $60,000 in addition to charges stemming from the January 15, theft of a police vehicle.
Original press release is below:TEXAS CITY, TX (January 15, 2018 4:10 P.M.) On January 15, 2018 at approximately 2:41 P.M. Texas City Police Officers arrested a male suspect operating a stolen vehicle in the 2500 block of the Dike. While officers were speaking to a witness and attending to the stolen vehicle, the suspect managed to slip out of handcuffs in the back seat of a police car, reach out through a small opening of the window and open the rear door. The suspect then re-entered the police car and drove off. The
suspect led police officers on a brief chase before crashing into a street sign located at the corner of 2nd Street and 9th Avenue. The suspect fled on foot before officers could apprehend him.
The suspect was identified as 35-year-old, Quang Van Mai of Galveston, Texas. Officers are currently searching the area for the suspect. No one was injured during this incident. The suspect is faces multiple charges including: Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Theft of a Motor Vehicle
and Evading in a Vehicle.
