Coast Guard assists disabled sailing vessel 92 miles offshore Galveston, Texas

HOUSTON —Coast Guard crews assisted a disabled sailing vessel 92 miles south of Galveston, Texas, Wednesday night.

Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a report that the 55-foot sailing vessel Serenity had lost her sails and was unable to make way leaving the two people aboard stranded.

Watchstanders instructed the captain of the vessel to activate his emergency position indicating radio beacon and launched the Coast Guard Cutter Stingray and a Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft crew.

Once on scene, the crew of the Stingray towed the Serenity to the Galveston jetties where the tow was transferred to a Tow Boat US vessel.
