KATY, TX — The search is on for the person who fired several shots at the Muslim American Society-Katy Center Mosque in Katy early Monday morning, officials said.

Harris County Sheriff's deputies were called at about 4:30 p.m. to the mosque after an employee at the mosque discovered that the mosque and a contractor's vehicle had been hit by gunfire.

Deputies discovered that a truck used by a contractor at the mosque had a bullet hole in the windshield, and that at least one bullet had hit the front wall of the mosque.

Mosque employees believe the incident took place sometime early Monday morning around 3 a.m., but the damage was not discovered until late Monday afternoon.

Investigators released a photograph from surveillance video that shows a vehicle, but provides little other information.

Anyone with information is urged to call the Violent Crimes unit at 713-274-9100. Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect in this case. Information may be reported by calling 713-222-TIPS (8477).
