On Monday, June 25, 2018, a Galveston County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to
the area of 977 Elsie in Gilchrist in reference to a drowning.
Witnesses
reported seeing a male subject,(name being withheld at time of release/ w/m
12/14/1983), who was last seen about 100 yards from shore on an inflatable raft.
After moving in towards the shoreline, he then turned his raft loose and began
walking backwards towards the water again.
Witnesses later looked back and
reported no longer being able to see him.
The water was extremely rough and
choppy at the time with rip currents.
Coast Guard was contacted immediately to
assist in the search.
Early morning of Tuesday, June 26, 2018, a GCSO deputy located
the man’s body face down in the water ¼ mile from where he was last seen.
