UPDATE: Resident Killed During Galveston Home Invasion
GALVESTON POLICE DEPARTMENT
Home Invasion Robbery/Capital Murder
(Galveston, TX) October 15, 2013- At approximately 1:15am, the Galveston Police Department received multiple 9-1-1 calls in reference to a woman in the street screaming for help at 22 Back Bay Circle. Officers arrived on location and met with the female victim who advised that two men broke into the house occupied by herself and her fiancé. The female victim advised the two men had shot her fiancé, Cedric Terrell Champion (m/b 8/29/1982).
Galveston EMS and Fire Department arrived on location and advised that Champion was deceased.
Officers canvassed the area and observed a white Dodge truck leaving the immediate area occupied by subjects matching the description of the suspects. The vehicle was stopped and the occupants detained.
The passenger in the vehicle was identified as David Keith Allen (m/w 9/23/1980). The ensuing investigation resulted in Allen being charged with Capital Murder; for the death of Cedric Champion in the course of an Aggravated Robbery. The driver of the vehicle was released.
Detectives are seeking assistance in the identification and arrest of the second suspect, only described as a light skinned Hispanic male. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Derek Gaspard at (409) 765-3778.
Editor's Note: Allen has a long criminal history beginning in 1997 when he was placed in juvenile detention at the Brownwood Youth Commission. He has convictions for assault causing injury, family assaults, aggravated robbery and has be in the Texas prison system on two occassions.
The Police News has extensive information about this crime and those involved but have agreed not to release it until the investigation is complete.
GALVESTON -- A homeowner was shot and killed during a home invasion in Galveston early this morning
Galveston police say at least three men broke into the home in a robbery attempt. The resident was shot and killed.
A woman inside the home was not injured.
Police captured two of the intruders but a third is still at large and a manhunt is underway.
The Police News has learned the identity of the dead man but is withholding it until his next of kin is notified. We can report that he is a 31-year old black man who was living there with his girlfriend and a 5-year old child. The girlfriend's parents, who live in Bayou Vista, reportedly own the home.
The dead man is also known to local law enforcement from his previous criminal history which includes convictions for Aggravated Robbery and Manufacturing/Distribution of Drugs. He served 2 year in prison and was released in 2012.
We have not learned the identity of the two men in custody but we have learned one of them was in possession of an item which had been stolen from the home during the robbery.
Galveston County District Attorney Jack Roady says his first assistant, Donna Cameron was at the scene assisting Galveston Police.
