CORPUS CHRISTI - Lela Gallo has saved lives from behind her desk at the Corpus Christi Police Department's Metrocom office with nothing more than a phone and a computer.

When she started with the department in 1975, she only had the phone. She memorized every street name. She knows there are three streets called Lexington, and easily can identify the hundred block of any street based on a single landmark. It was all part of her job.
