Houston bank robber jailed and charged January 22, 2013
Special to The Police News Charges have officially been filed against 55 year old Eugene Smith of Houston, in connection with a Houston area bank robbery. Houston Police officers arrested Smith after a vehicle pursuit that ended in a crash on Monday. The pursuit happened shortly after the robbery of the Woodforest Bank inside the Walmart at 13750 East Freeway in Houston. During the robbery, a man wearing a fake beard handed tellers a threatening note demanding money. After getting some cash, the robber fled the area in a green mini-van. It was the same minivan that lead officers on the pursuit. After the vehicle pursuit and crash, Smith got out of the vehicle and ran. He was arrested shortly thereafter in the vicinity of Mykawa and Dixie. No one was hurt. Upon the arrest, officers recovered the cash stolen from the bank. Smith is charged with one count of Robbery by Threat in the State of Texas. The investigation is ongoing. Investigators will be looking to see if Smith may be responsible for any other bank robberies in our area or elsewhere. |
