A pregnant teenager accused of holding up convenience stores last year rejected the state's deal for 15 years in prison Thursday.

Miranda Garcia, 18, opted instead to go to trial. Garcia faces up to life in prison on suspicion of charges of aggravated robbery, burglary and auto theft.

Prosecutors initially offered Garcia a plea deal for 10 years in prison, which she rejected. Prosecutors later added charges and offered her 15 years.

Judge Guy Williams of the 148th District Court told Garcia on Thursday he believed she would take the deal and this was her final opportunity.

Garcia attempted twice to explain why she rejected the deal before her attorney cut her off.

Defense attorney Gabriella Canales told the judge Garcia is four months pregnant. Garcia has another child who is under the care of grandparents who are diagnosed with cancer, Canales said.

Garcia remained in the Nueces County Jail without bail Thursday. She had posted bail five times since her arrest, jail officials said.

Corpus Christi police arrested Garcia in April 2013. Police said Garcia displayed a handgun and demanded money from the cash register at the Stripes in the 15300 block of South Padre Island Drive and left in a white 2008 Nissan Altima. Police said they saw the Altima parked at another Stripes in the 14500 block of South Padre Island Drive while they were on the way to the robbery call, according to the release.

The store employee told police the teen had just robbed the store and was leaving when the officers stopped behind her.
