NUECES COUNTY - Sheriff Jim Kaelin is warning residents not to fall victim to a telephone scam that involves someone claiming you need to pay up because you failed to appear for jury duty.

A release says the caller claims people face being arrested if they don't pay up.

Sheriff Kaelin recommends contacting the Sheriff's Office or the Corpus Christi Police Department if you need more information on the scam.

Aransas Pass Police Chief  Eric Blanchard says his department has also received similar reports and he issued this statement. "New jury duty scam going around.  Caller is impersonating a law enforcement official or bill collector.  Never give out personal financial info to those whom you do not personally know".
