Police News Exclusive

HOUSTON - An area man, once a police officer in Hitchcock and deputy sheriff in Hardeman County, is back in jail, this time in Harris County.
Michael John Nelson, 26, was stopped by Houston Police last week and found to be in possession of a fradulent I.D. and he was carrying a pistol without a license.

The Police News last reported on Nelson, in January 2011 when he was fired from the Hardeman County Sheriff's Office and charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child and one for drug possession.  There is no record of the final disposition of those cases.  Nelson claimed at the time the charges were in retaliation for his investigation of a family member of the Sheriff.  He was freed on $205,000.00 bail.

Nelson comes from a prominent and respected Galveston County family but has managed to compile an arrest record in cities throughout the area.
In November, 2011, he was arrested by Santa Fe Police for misdemeanor drug possession.  Then in May, 2012 Pearland Police arrested him for possession of marijuana, another misdemeanor charge.  That was followed by his arrest in Friendswood for driving with a suspended license and in January of 2013 on a theft charge in Houston.

Nelson was arrested June 29 and has yet to post $10,000.00 bail on the two charges against him.

Privileged to stay in jail, it sounds like that is where he belongs!!

Is it possible this guy should not be in law enforcement? He obviously will need a job that pays more to maintain those kinds of bonds.

Some people are just screw ups. I believe Nelson was once a deputy with the Galveston County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff of Hardeman County is Charles M. Nelson.

CHL (License) is not required for having a pistol in your car.

Cowboy1885, when you are charged with a crime outside of a traffic violation you can be charged with UCW as well.

I knew it wouldn't take too long for Nelson to get picked up again. I think he finally ditched that old crown Vic with the spot light he was driving
