KEMAH, Texas - A San Leon married couple, both with a long list of felony and misdemeanor convictions in multiple counties, are in Galveston County Jail after being arrested in Kemah for shoplifting and robbery at the Kemah WalMart store last Saturday.

Kemah Police say Michael Lee Hocutt, 44, and wife Ashlie Diann Hocutt, 29, tried to leave the store without paying for a 50-inch television which was still in it's box.

Lt. Carl Nunn said the couple loaded the TV into a shopping basket and merely rolled it through the store and out the front door where they loaded it into their SUV.

They were followed from the store by a store security officer who was hit by the Hocutt's getaway car as it left the parking lot.

A short distance away a Kemah Police officer spotted them and gave chase.  They stopped and were arrested in the 2300 block of South Kemah Drive.

Michael Hocutt has had previous run-ins with the law in Harris, Galveston, Palo Pinto and Brazoria Counties and has been convicted of Theft, Burglary, Unauthoried Use of a Motor Vehicle and Evading Arrest.

Ashie Hocutt, whose maiden name was Roberts, has been convicted of Theft and Driving While Intoxicated.

In this latest arrest she is charged with Theft and he is charged with Robbery.  The charge against him was enhanced when, as the driver of the getaway car, he hit the store security officer, constituting an assault committed while in the act of committing another crime.

The store security officer suffered only minor injuries.
