Attend Island Hurricane Preparedness Town Hall Meeting May 29
GALVESTON, Texas – Hurricane season starts June 1 and Island officials are encouraging the public to be prepared. The City of Galveston will host its annual Hurricane Preparedness Town Hall Meeting at 5 PM on Wednesday, May 29, at the Galveston Island Convention Center. Important information about hurricanes, preparedness, evacuation procedures and assistance, family, home and pet preparation will be presented.

As part of the City’s hurricane preparation plan, the One Call Reaches All emergency notification system will be tested the evening before the Town Hall event. Residents are encouraged to sign up themselves, friends and family members for the emergency notification system by visiting www.cityofgalveston.org and clicking on the One Call Reaches All icon from the homepage.
The Galveston Marine Response Group will be available to show equipment and discuss response plans for the upcoming hurricane season. This multi-agency response group comprised of the Galveston Fire Department, Galveston Police Marine Division, Galveston Island Beach Patrol, and Jamaica Beach Fire Rescue, was formed to more effectively manage aquatic emergencies.
As in year’s past, exhibits will open to the public prior to the start of the meeting. Elected officials, National Weather Service personnel, and representatives from UTMB, Galveston County, and the City of Galveston will make informative presentations. Representatives from State of Texas Governor Rick Perry’s office will be on hand to present a proclamation for Beach Safety Week to City officials. The public can address the speakers during a community Q&A session. Free hot dogs, cake, and drinks will be provided to all attendees.
