Presentation, Discussion and Information About Hurricane Awareness and Preparedness
La Marque, Texas - The City of La Marque will host a town hall meeting for its residents and other interested individuals on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the La Marque City Council Chambers (1109-B, Bayou Road).
The purpose of the town hall, which will start at 6:00 p.m. and last about an hour, is to give attendees an overview of the coming hurricane season and provide tips on how to prepare should a storm come to our area.
“Many of our residents were not here for Hurricane Ike or any of the other storms that have impacted us,” said La Marque Police Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator, Randall Aragon. “If you haven’t lived through a hurricane or tropical storm in this area, then it is important for you to take a little time and build your knowledge of what to expect and how to prepare and respond. But even if you are a long time resident you should come for a refresher and to learn how things have changed since Ike.”
The key speaker at the town hall will be David Popoff, Chief Emergency Management Coordinator for the Galveston County Office of Emergency Management. Chief Popoff, a long-time resident of the area and former State Coordinator for the Texas Division of Emergency Management, has been involved in response and recovery for every hurricane to hit the Texas coast since 2006.
Chief Popoff will cover issues related to storm impacts and how to prepare. He will also cover important information regarding evacuation and re-entry as well as what to expect from response organizations in the aftermath.
Chief Aragon will also be available to speak to specific issues related to La Marque.
There will be handouts and fliers available to help attendees further their understanding and to point to sources of additional information.
