Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset announced today an arrest in the 1984 Unsolved Murder of Ellen Rae Beason, then 31-years old.

A Sheriff’s Office Detective with the assistance of the League City Police and the FBI has arrested and charged Clyde Edwin Hedrick, 59 of San Leon, with Murder.

Ellen Rae Beason was reported to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office as a missing person in July 1984 and was reported to be last seen at the Texas Moon Club in League City by a friend who noticed her car still parked there the following day. It was reported at the time she had left the club with a man in a pickup truck, leaving her car there.

In 1985 detectives received information on the whereabouts of Ms. Beason’s body. She then was recovered in an area just off the old causeway road in Galveston County.

In November of 2011, detectives opened this cold case and developed new evidence which led to Beason’s remains being removed from her grave site and sent to the University of North Texas Health Science Center to be examined by Dr. H. Gil-King, Forensic Pathologist. Dr. Gil-King determined that Beason's skull received blunt force trauma which he identified as a Homicide. Additional DNA examination was performed to confirm this was Ellen Rae Beason remains.

Detectives met with Galveston County District Attorney, Jack Roady who authorized the issuance of a warrant for Clyde Edwin Hedrick for First Degree Murder and he remains in custody in lieu of $150,000.00 bond.

Sheriff’s Office Detectives working this cold case are seeking any information from the public in this case or any other unsolved Homicide in Galveston County.

Seriously? Fifty nine years old? This Bozo looks more like one hundred and nine. I can only hope he received this marvelous look from many a guilt ridden sleepless night!
Posted by Appreciative Reader at 4/4/2013 5:38:48 PM

he is innocent untill proven otherwise so keep your comments to yourself you dick....people love him and this is a horrible mistake and it will come to light soon please keep yoour negative remarks to yourself... he looks like this due to a ongoing battle with cancer an doesnt deserve this case of mistaken identity on top of that
Posted by bre at 4/4/2013 9:34:46 PM

Mistaken Identity??? LOL!! he was convicted of hiding her body!! Go check the public record on his criminal past, he is a horrible man and he is finally getting what he deserves now that he is so old that people wont be afraid to testify against him
the only horrible mistake here is that it took 29 years for him to be charged
Posted by REALLY?? at 4/5/2013 8:13:06 AM

bre you are right that he is innocent until proven guilty but make no mistake, he IS GUILTY! His family turned him in when the woman's remains were found, and there was absolutely no case of mistaken identity.
Posted by exdetective at 4/5/2013 9:49:33 AM

how can you live with your self for that long not thinking about what you did and how you probably destroyed people's lives.
Posted by anonymous at 4/5/2013 11:14:00 AM

Have known this hardworking man for years, Good Husband and father and friend! His innocence will be found out in the end. This is all a mistake I believe!
Posted by His friends at 4/5/2013 2:15:06 PM

He is innocent! He only moved her body after she drowned! He DID NOT bury her! AND His family DID NOT turn him in! I have been with him since 98! he is a good solid hard working man who was struck with cancer in his prime! His ex girlfriend turned him in when he broke up with her! He is not violent! Oh, and past record? The enticing a child was buying his daughter a go cart when he and his wife divorced! I know! I was there! Police ALWAYS jack shit up! When they picked him up for that they were calling him Chester The Molester! And they KNEW it was nothing sexual! Thats our good ole galveston County boys in action! Know what you are talking about before you speak! I'm sure most people have messed up in there lives! but they dont need to be framing people! You gonna tell me science couldnt tell her head was bashed in in 85? THATS the new evidence? OH! her heads bashed in she must have drowned! You people are silly!
Posted by Gladys at 4/5/2013 3:55:40 PM

MR. exdetective! You are wrong! candy Gifford turned him in! Not his family! So she wouldnt be charged with him!this is a good man! I have been with him since 98. NEVER has he raised a hand to me! And ask around, he was ALWAYS helping people for free! A good man! My man! Now Why dont yall set him free, and go arrest the gangbanger yall KNOW murdered my son! he got off free. a felon with a gun,put gun to his chest and pulled the trigger! That would be good work!
Posted by His woman at 4/5/2013 4:04:41 PM

Posted by texasriverat at 4/5/2013 7:57:40 PM

Good man?? Never raised a hand to you?? lol your an idiot and a liar...but I understand you're worried he will get out on bond so you gotta say nonsense in public, laughable stuff though cause we all know he is trash and loves to choke women .... when he isn't spieing on them through holes in the trailer wall!
Posted by Really?? at 4/5/2013 11:29:46 PM

Jack Roady doesn't approve a warrant to be sent for a judge to sign without there being probable cause for the arrest.

Just sayin

According to a newspaper article from 1985, Hedrick told police he had been at a club with Beason and they later drove to a remote sandpit in Dickinson near Highway 3. At the sandpit, Hedrick stayed in his truck while Beason went swimming and accidently drowned. Hedrick stated he tried to revive her, but his attempts failed. That's when he allegedly "panicked" and did what anyone else of good moral character would do in such a situation: He threw her body in the back of his truck and then drove around, looking for a good place to dump it.

Hedrick was convicted of tampering with a corpse in this case and later added to his resume a conviction of larceny, cocaine possession, making a terroristic threat and evading arrest.

I'm sure he's a great guy. It was pure malevolence that the police picked this fine upstanding guy to charge numerous times. And moving a body after someone dies, oh yeah, that's always a reasonable course of action. Happens all the time! LOL!!!!!
Posted by YouKnowWho at 4/6/2013 4:06:36 PM

Why did it take digging up her body and having a doc examine it to notice her head was bashed in? I'd like to know who the eye doctor was for the original detective, So I don't get my glasses from him!
Posted by Not a Det. at 4/7/2013 7:47:27 AM

Im not sure what to say? i went to school with his daughter in santa fe then later went and hung out with her and another friend at his house.
he seemed really caring and sweet. Dont talk negative about someone you dont know !!
wait for the truth to come out instead of all the BS!!
Posted by sanleon resident at 4/9/2013 9:38:07 PM

Stalked me for years, then the creep, still drives by my house. My sister caught him at the window at one night, screen off, curtains blowing out the window. There stood a shadow of a man. First scared then said Clyde is that you? He got his self beat with a shovel and put in the hospital by the brother. Deed well done, Texas Justice.
Or the time he cut a hole in the floor to get inside uninvited. Or blocking all exits to a home and starting the porch on fire with me in it. Yea! Real Nice Guy !! Just never got caught fully.
Posted by Pasted Stalked Victim at 4/13/2013 1:07:57 AM

My observations are that he has always been a good neighbor, hard working, and helps others frequently. If we opened closets around here, how many would fall out of yours? The TRUTH is ALWAYS a good thing. Let's pray for that.
True story:
Thirteen years ago my friend's 19 year old son, then a senior, dated a 16 year old girl in the same high school. After several months he and her mother fell out and she pressed charges against him.He has to register as a pediafile sex offender, can't rent an apartment or pass a background check for a decent job. Even tough he is now married and has 3 beautiful children, he can't take them to school, the park or the public swimming pool.Hmmm...
Posted by San Leon Neighbor at 4/18/2013 11:05:02 PM

HEY STALKED! I know who you are! I was dating Clyde at that time and he bragged to me about cutting the hole in your floor! He later broke into my apartment and raped me, at knife point. While he was "busy" with that, I got the knife and hid it. He took my eight year old sick son and held him upside down oer the concrete front porch and threatened to drop him on his head if I didn't give the knife back! Oh yeah, Clyde's a real "sweet" guy!
Posted by RAPED at 10/16/2013 2:24:05 AM

For all the people that's saying he's "a great guy" that's the same thing they said about Ted Bundy. Now they're saying that he's the guy that's been dumping women's bodies at the killing field in League City.
Posted by Hmmm at 1/16/2014 2:37:55 PM

I've known Clyde for 7 years at my church. He's a God fearing man and a family man. He is a Tea Party member in good standing and dooes'nt deserve this. He never hit me or raised his voice.
Posted by at 2/2/2014 4:00:24 PM

A Tea Party member? Well, doesn't that just figure? So, not only is he a rapist and a murderer, he's an idiot, too!

It was right around the same time that Ellen Beason was killed that he raped me at knife point. I have a strong suspicion that Clyde is good for a lot of these murders! I consider myself lucky to have escaped him alive. Oh, and it didn't escape my notice that, in his interview with the reporter, he said that he doesn't hurt women. I guess raping a woman doesn't hurt her at all, right?

He did the crimes, people.
