Karras was released without being charged.

The following day Narcotics officers went to Karras's residence in Jamaica Beach for a follow-up investigation.

There officers could see narcotics paraphernalia through a window and smell the odor of burning marijuana coming from the inside when Ellerbe opened the door.

Officers also could hear the toilet flushing repeatedly inside the residence and believed evidence was being flushed down the toilet. They entered and found Taylor Karras leaving the restroom and found marijuana floating in the toilet.  It was collected as evidence.

Both Ellerbe and Karras were arrested and charged with Tampering with Evidence and booked into the Galveston County Jail in lieu of bail.
