Donald Mark Mize, a 63 year old League City Volunteer Fire Department Cadet died in an area hospital following a training exercise Wednesday, March 6, 2013. He was cooling down after the training exercise at the League City Volunteer Fire Department's training facility when he experienced a medical event. Donald grew up in the Denver Harbor area of Houston. He graduated from Austin High School then earned his Masters of Education from Sam Houston State University. He began his teaching career in the Galveston ISD and spent the last twelve years of his educational career as a high school teacher for the Clear Creek ISD. After retirement from teaching in May 2012 he joined the Texas State Guard and completed the Citizens Police Academy in League City. Fulfilling his lifelong desire, he applied and was accepted as a Cadet for the League City Volunteer Fire Department. Donald was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a long standing 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He was an active member of the Galveston Historical Foundation where he researched the rich Galveston County history. Donald was instrumental in gaining official designation of numerous historical landmarks.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Donald Mize. Survivors include his wife, Theresa A. Mize; daughter, Stacey Mize and her sons, Jordan and Connor; two stepsons, Keith and James Kahanek; mother, Ona Elizabeth Mize; brother, James "Jimbo" Mize and his children, Michelle and Chris; sister, Rebecca Mize and her children, Zachary and Nicolette; four cousins, Brett, Bob and Bill and Virginia; many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 11, 2013 with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Forest Park East Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1612 E. Walker, League City, Texas 77573. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made by memorial contributions to St. Mary's Catholic Church Seminary, 1612 E. Walker, League City, TX 77573 or to the Don Mize Scholarship Fund at Clear View High School, 400 S. Walnut, Webster, TX 77598. For more information contact (281) 284-1500.

Don will be truly missed. As a coworker at Clearview Education Center, he was always there to help anyone who needed it. I truly enjoyed working with him and will always remember his dedication to his students, family and staff. God Bless you and your family

Don was a good man and extremely loyal. I worked with Don for many years at CCISD and remember his dedication to his students. After retirement he worked at the YMCA in League City and was always so friendly and helpful. You will be missed!
