Job Description
This position will be posted in Victoria, Texas Residence in or around the City of Victoria a plus.
Summary
This position will establish and maintain a functional branch of UHPD on the University of Houston Victoria Campus. This is the first police position at the UHV campus.
The new sergeant will be responsible for establishing relationships with the community, developing operational procedures for the police function for the campus, and working with the existing civilian security force to maintain a safe and secure environment.
Strong writing and public speaking skills are desired for this position, and will be evaluated as a factor in the hiring decision.
Job Duties -
Supervises personnel including activities, work assignments, development, and evaluation of performance.
Coordinates the Beat Management program, call responses, and investigations of crime scenes.
Disseminates information regarding criminal activity, special assignments and safety or security related events to appropriate departmental staff.
Acts as liaison between the department and the community, providing safety and security information, and initiating and participating in crime prevention presentations.
Identifies and implements efficiencies in department operations and processes.
Prepares and distributes various reports; reviews reports written by subordinates for accuracy; and maintains local supervisory files.
Conducts regular building, uniform and vehicle inspections.
Participates in periodic training as required.
Investigates complaints concerning shift personnel.
Performs Police Officer patrol duties as needed.
Performs other job-related duties are assigned.

Monthly Step Plan Intervals (based on UHPD service only)
2 to 4 years - $100.00, 5 to 9 years - $200.00, 10 to 14 years - $300.00, 15 to 19 years $400.00, 20+ - $500.00 -----
Hazardous Duty (based on state commissioned service)
Receive $10/month times years of service (ie. 2 years of service = $20/month)-----
Education Pay Stipend - 60 hrs college or intermediate TCLEOSE certification - $100/month, College degree or advanced certification - $200/month, Masters degree or masters certification - $300/month
Job Requirements
Age 21
Education High School or Equivalent
Experience 3 Years of Law Enforcement
Additional Requirement :
Requires specialized training in basic trades, principles, procedures, practice, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level.
Must be a current TCLEOSE certified peace officer.
UHPD requires all applicants to complete the criminal history fields on their application. Applicants with incomplete criminal history fields will not be considered for a position.
Must be at least 21 years of age and have a clear Texas driver's license.
Must have three years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement and public safety.
Must have considerable knowledge of State and Federal laws.
Must possess exceptional leadership and management skills.
Must have a demonstrated ability to work effectively in complex, decentralized organization.
Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills.
Must have a proven ability to initiate and maintain productive relationships with internal and external constituencies.
