Jeremy John Richard, 36, of Friendswood, was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury-Enhanced-Family Violence after officers responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 16400 block of Bougainvilla Lane.

When Friendswood officers arrived they separated Richard and his wife.  The wife had signs of abuse around her neck but told police that nothing happened.

Richard, however, told the officer that he was attacked by his wife and that he pushed her off in self-defense as he tried to leave with his 9-year old daughter.

Later, the wife made an outcry that concerned police. Richard is accused of pushing his wife into a wall and placing his hands around her neck and throat, impeding her breath.

After the assault, Richard wrote a note saying that he would not physically or verbally abuse his wife again but before police arrived, he tried to destroy the note and spin the story in his favor.

However, the evidence did not corroborate Richard's story.  After Richard's wife was taken to the police station and a statement taken from her, officers re-interviewed Richard at his home.

Richard told police that he did, in fact, put his hands around his wife's neck.  He also admitted to writing the note but stopped before he was finished.

Richard was taken into custody and transported to the Friendswood Jail.  A request for an Emergency Protective Order was completed.
