Woman Sentenced to 52 Years for Sexual Abuse of a Child

February 6, 2017

GALVESTON – Today, Aimee Charlene Orgo, 37, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for each of two charges of Sexual Assault of a Child and 12 years in prison for one charge of Sexual Performance by a Child.

On March 2, 2017, after entering a plea of guilty to the charges in the 56th District Court, Orgo elected to have jury determine her punishment and a trial on punishment began. Over the course of the day, the victim testified about the sexual abuse that occurred in October 2015 which was reported by the victim to the school and friends shortly afterwards. The victim outlined for the jury the extent of the sexual abuse and where the sexual abuse took place, telling the jury about sexual abuse that happened in August 2013. The State also presented additional witness testimony and other evidence corroborating the victim’s testimony.

Orgo, who had no criminal history, faced a sentencing range of 5 years to 99 years, or life, in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for both of the Sexual Assault charges and 2 years to 20 years for the Sexual Performance by a Child charge. After hearing closing arguments on March 3, 2017 and deliberating for about three hours, the jury set Orgo’s punishment at 20 years in prison for each of the sexual assault cases and 12 years for the sexual performance by a child case. The court, at the request of the State, stacked the sentences, meaning Orgo will serve each sentence consecutively essentially making the sentence 52 years. Orgo will be required to serve at least one-half of each sentence before being eligible for parole, which will be in about 26 years. Once released from prison Orgo will be required to register for life, every 90 days, as a sex offender.

Orgo was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Beverly Armstrong and Charlotte Kim in the 56th District Court, with Judge Lonnie Cox presiding. The investigation was conducted by the Texas City Police Department.

Orgo’s codefendant and husband, Matthew Bryan Orgo, is awaiting trial which is scheduled for March 27, 2017. He was arrested for two charges of Sexual Assault of a Child, one charge of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, and one charge of Sexual Performance by a Child.

Tiffany M. Alfred,

Assistant Criminal District Attorney

Galveston County District Attorney's Office

Comments:
Thank you for updating us on the status of this case. I would like to thank the prosecution team, Judge Lonnie Cox, and the jury. Thank you, also, to District Clerk John Kinard for ensuring the case could be brought forward and tried in a safe manner. Child abuse cases, of any type, are especially difficult to hear. For those of us who cherish our children and grandchildren, as well as the children in our community, the thoughts and actions displayed by criminal predators are unfathomable. May the Lord bless the children who are brave enough to step forward and stop the abuse, and also those who live in terror and feel that they cannot confide in anyone.
