HOUSTON - A woman was killed and two others were injured Sunday when a police chase ended in a crash in west Houston, police said.
The crash was reported at just before 10 p.m. on Katy Freeway at Blalock Road.
Officials said the chase started when an officer pulled over a speeding driver. As the officer walked toward the vehicle, the driver took off, leading the officer on chase, Houston police said.
The driver exited Katy Freeway and sped down Echo Lane where the driver ran a red light and hit a blue sedan, pushing it into a pole. The impact of the crash split the sedan in half and killed a woman inside.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man and woman in the suspect's vehicle were taken to a hospital. Their conditions were unknown.
It is unknown why the driver led police on the chase.
It is unclear what charges the driver will face.
The crash remains under investigation.
