FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Feb, 16 2018

Richmond, Texas

On February, 16, 2018 the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office was notified about two separate school threats made through social media, specifically through Snapchat.

The first threat was Friday morning. The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office was notified by FBISD PD of a possible threat to Billy Baines Middle School located within Sienna Plantation, Missouri City, Fort Bend County.

A 14-year-old student of Billy Baines Middle School sent a snap stating that he was going to shoot the school. Another student saw the snap and told their parents, and the parents called the school. The school informed FBISD PD who reached out to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office to launch an investigation.

The juvenile was arrested off campus and charged with making a Terroristic Threat, a third degree Felony.

That juvenile is now in the juvenile detention facility.

The second threat was made Friday afternoon at the Harmony Public School campus in Katy, Fort Bend County.

A 15-year-old juvenile was detained by school administrators after it was brought to their attention that the student had made threats to the school through Snapchat.

The suspect sent two threatening Snapchat messages. One message posted an image of Florida students fleeing the school with the statement this was going to happen to 7th graders at Harmony. The suspect sent a follow up post with a link on how to sneak guns into school. It was also learned that about 1 month ago the same student posted another threatening statement about “him” shooting 7th graders. This older post made by the suspect was not reported to school officials at the time of occurrence.

The juvenile was arrested and charged with making a Terroristic Threat, a third degree Felony.

That juvenile is now in the juvenile detention facility.

“Parents need to have a conversation with their child about the seriousness of posting threats on social media.” said Sheriff Troy Nehls.

Yes, it's good that they were apprehended but...will they be punished appropriately? Hopefully so.
