Benjamin Cray
12/18/1977

In the early evening of December 8th, 2017 the La Porte Police Department’s Patrol Division responded to a crash in the 11000 block of North P Street, La Porte Texas. The crash involved two pedestrians walking on the wrong side of the roadway in dark clothing. One of the two was struck with a mirror from a passing vehicle. The other person, Benjamin Scott Cray of La Porte Texas, fled the scene before officers arrived.

During the crash investigation, patrol officers discovered Cray left the scene due to the police being called. Patrol officers began searching the immediate area and located Cray several blocks from his residence. Cray initially gave officers a fictitious name and birth date. After further investigation, Cray’s real name and date of birth were obtained.  He was checked through the National Crime Information Center database, revealing a Felony Federal Warrant from the US Marshal’s Office for probation violation relating to the smuggling of aliens.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and the charge for failure to identify, fugitive from justice was accepted on Cray. The Federal Warrant was verified and Cray was subsequently arrested for the warrant and failure to identify. He was later transported to the Harris County Jail where he now awaits transfer to federal authorities.

The driver of the vehicle is not facing any charges and the pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
