A man posing as a police officer, tried pulling over an off-duty San Antonio policeman last week.

The incident occurred about an hour south of San Antonio, along Highway 281. According to police, a white man with a beard used an un-marked white Chevy Silverado to pull over the off duty officer.

“He's an officer and he respects the badge,” said Carlos Ortiz a spokesperson from the San Antonio Police Department. “He pulled over for what he thought was a legitimate police stop."

The man claiming to be with police carried a gun. He accused the SAPD officer of speeding, and demanded him to pay with cash or credit card. The San Antonio police officer was suspicious, and refused to pay.

"This gentleman came up, and was basically asking for cash, instead of writing a ticket,” said Ortiz. “No officer in San Antonio, is going to be asking for money while giving a ticket."

The man, posing as an officer, eventually noticed police gear in the driver's back seat. Upon this realization, he quickly left the scene.

"He jumped back into whatever vehicle he was in, and sped off,” said Ortiz. "We look into those cases with extreme importance, because we don't want someone out there to be taken advantage of."

Police recommend that if you feel suspicious about a stop, to dial 911 right away. NEWS4SANANTONIO

When the officer became suspicious why didn't he take the poser into custody and call for the real police?
