Three teenagers recently broke into a home in Oklahoma, and were shot with lethal force by the homeowner. Regardless of the law of the right to bear arms, where any homeowner retains the right to use lethal force, the use of this recent violence is being called into question by Leroy Schumacher, grandfather of one of the boys.

Three teenagers, aged 18, 17 and 16, broke into the Peters family home armed only with brass knuckles. The homeowner’s son, Zach Peters,  exchanged some words with the teenagers when they broke into his home. After this, Zach killed all three teens using an AR15 gun.

Authorities believe Zach was acting within the “self-defense clause”, where should a person break into your house, the use of lethal defense is allowed. In the aftermath of this crime, the families of all three teenagers are left wondering if authorities will consider a different charge against Zach Peters. 

One of the teenagers’ grandfathers, Leroy Schumacher, believes all three boys actions were not intelligent. He doesn’t think the violence used against them was warranted, and that the defense was unfair. Leroy reminds everyone that they were just teenagers, and perhaps the use of lethal force against boys was unjustified.


The right to bear arms has been a controversial hot topic as of late, given American rise in civilian shootings, and the idea of using an assault rifle to defend yourself seems disproportionate to some. The weapon Zach used, a Colt AR-15, is a lightweight gas-fed, magazine fed, semi-automatic rifle. This particular gun was also used during the Newtown shooting, and the Aurora movie theater shooting in Colorado during the Dark Knight Rises release.


In addition to the break and enter charges, 21-Year-Old Elizabeth Rodriguez, who drove the getaway car, is being charged with burglary, and three counts of first-degree murder. The court places blame on her shoulders for driving the teens to the crime, therefore putting them in the line of danger. Leroy Schumacher wishes everyone involved would have shown more restraint and intelligence before committing their crimes.

Someone breaks into my home I am going to shoot them! At ages 16, 17, and 18 these guys are most likely good sized and very threatening. Yes, they did a very stupid thing, a very stupid and felonious thing.

Well,I believe they got what they deserved. I don't care how old they were, all three were old enough to know better. All of them together could have, and probably would have, overpowered the one guy and either hurt him badly, or killed him with guns that were in the house. He was probably scared out of his wits and reacted in the only way he knew how. W-O-R-K is a nasty four letter word these days but a job would have allowed any, and all, of those boys to obtain what they were there to steal. That's the problem with many of the kids today. They are spoiled. They have had everything handed to them and the softie parents have always overlooked their evil deeds so that when they are grown, or almost grown, they think they can do what they want to do without suffering any of the consequences. I sure hope the guy who shot them does not get charged.

It seems to be the norm now to blame the citizen for the criminal acts committed by their thug children, when in fact had they spent more time teaching their children how to be honest, hard working citizens they would not be burying them today.

I bet these 3 upstanding teen thugs have a history of this sh.. Break into my home you will be shot no question. This is on the thugs who broke in not the young man defending himself

I have seen someone beaten so bad with brass knucklies that they died later in the hospital.I also would have shot them.Breaking into a house with brass knuckles, does their family think they were there for a visit?

Omg... Teens carrying brass knuckles and plan performing a felony act, but then never thinking if they loot, We Will Shoot! You don't carry brass knuckles to a gun fighting offense. There is signs (you loot,we shoot) all over my community right now after the big storm but do you thk these thieves will read or thk twice about what it says, Hell No. And bright or not, where was the grandfather when the thugs were learning to be criminals, and do you thk he has any right to say now the gun was a little harsh in a teen stupid situation? Where were the parents in raising these kids and teaching them not to be part of a society problem and not allowing them to become dead thugs. You can tell by their stupid looks in the pics that they never had a real caring parents to raise them, and oh yeah, there is the girl driving the get-away car. Guess she won't ever forget that she was part of the problem here. Yeah, her fiends died because she helped cause the scene. It's all to stupid.

Well at least the parents won't have to waste their money on further education for these kids now...

The kids/adults got what they had coming to them. The grandfather should pay to have the homeowners carpet cleaned and pay for his ammo.

This article's headline should read "Once Again, The Colt AR-15 protects Homeowners". As for the grandpappy Leroy Schumacher, I wonder what tune would he be singing had the 3 teens beat the homeowners to death. Would it go something like this. "Leroy Schumacher, grandpappy to one of the teens says they didn't mean to harm the family, they are good kids and would never MEAN to do any harm to anyone". We hear this all to often from the criminals families, wake up people! Anyone and everyone is capable of harming others should they choose to........
