Date: Sept 20, 2017

Reported Date: September 19, 2017                 Incident: Credit / Debit Card Abuse

Incident Number: 17-20749

At 12:40 pm, Tuesday, September 19, 2017, Pasadena Police received a call from the manager of the Seller’s Brothers/Valero Convenience Store located at 10990 Red Bluff Rd at Bay Area Boulevard in Pasadena. During her daily inspection on, Sunday, September 17, the store manager noticed that the key pad on one of the gas pumps appeared to have been damaged and put in a work order to have it repaired.

When the repair technician arrived Tuesday, he realized that the key pad had been pried open and a “skimming” device had been installed inside the gas pump. After checking the other pumps, he discovered a total of seven devices had been installed inside the gas pumps. The manager is not sure how long these devices had been inside the gas pumps before being discovered.

The skimming devices were found in pumps number 1 and 11-16.  Skimming devices are installed for the purpose of capturing credit and debit card information, including PIN numbers.  This financial information is then typically used to make unauthorized purchases.

Citizens that have frequented this location recently and used and paid at the gas pumps identified above are encouraged to contact their financial institution and cancel their debit/credit card as well as monitor their account for any unauthorized charges.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the suspect(s) is encouraged to contact the Pasadena Police Department (713-477-1221) or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477). Callers who wish to remain anonymous should contact Crime Stoppers. Information provided by the caller to Crime Stoppers leading to the arrest of the suspect(s) is eligible for a cash reward up to $5000.
