GALVESTON - An investigator with the Galveston County Medical Examiners Office tells Texas Police News this afternoon that 57-year old Michele Grindberg whose body was discovered in a Galveston alleyway, took her own life.  John Florence says she apparently used a handgun.  The missing person report issued by police last week stated Grindberg was believed to have had a pistol with her when she went missing.

Since Texas Police News published the story of the discovery of the body of Michele Grindberg there still has been no formal press release or public statement by the Galveston Police Department.  However, the story did show up in the local Galveston newspaper this morning but with no more information than we published three days ago.

This morning we attempted to get a statement from the police department but was unable to reach anyone with speaking authority.  The Public Information Officer is on vacation so his calls are being taken by the city PIO who does no speak on police issues.  The commander of the Criminal Investigation Division was unavailable, calls going to voice mail.

The Galveston County Medical Examiner is scheduled to perform an autopsy today to determine the cause and manner of her death.  There may be more information after this.

Texas Police News has learned the body of 57-year old Michele Grindberg has been discovered in the alley behind the abandoned Falstaff Building, 3300 Strand.  According to sources, a pedestrian discovered the body beside her van and called police.

Galveston Police have not confirmed the discovery but the van towed from the site with a police escort was the 202 white Pontiac Montana bearing her license plates.  It was apparently being towed to police storage where it will be examined by crime scene investigators.

Police had issued a lookout for Grindberg and were concerned about her safety.  The police bulletin is below.
