Fred Boas

A Galveston County sheriff's deputy was arrested Tuesday for assaulting his girlfriend.

The unnamed 22-year-old woman reported 32-year-old Fred Boas  to the Galveston County Justice Center early Saturday. According to the woman, Boas pushed her, causing her to fall on her head, during a verbal argument outside his apartment in the 200 block of Market Street.

The woman also told officers that Boas "aggressively picked her up off of the floor by her wrist causing her pain," according to a statement from the Galveston Police Department. GPD investigators with the deparments Family Services Unit photographed the woman's injuries, which they said were consistent with her testimony.

A voicemail from Boas was also provided to investigators, where a male voice can be heard apologizing for assaulting her.

Boas was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury – Family Violence, a Class A misdemeanor and is being held at the Galveston County Jail on a $7,500 bond.

When I was a kid back in the 50's, this was a common practice and nothing was ever done about it...like getting locked up
