A Jefferson Parish Sheriff's deputy is in critical condition after crashing on the way to a burglary call early this morning. And it turns out that the call was apparently unfounded.

According to the office, Officer Jarone Fountain was on his way to investigate a 911 call from an elderly woman in Waggaman who reported five people had broken into her home and were refusing to leave. Fountain apparently lost control of the vehicle near Live Oak Drive and Willswood, and crashed into a ditch.

Officer Fountain is in critical condition at University Hospital. Meanwhile, the deputies that investigated the reported burglary found that there was only one other person in the home, an elderly man. There was no sign of forced entry, and the woman who called 911 apparently has a history of dementia.
