A blood drive for a veteran Galveston Police Officer has been set for June 5 who underwent 9 hours neuro surgery Thursday after suffering a stroke at home.

Officer Carl Lomax, had an overnight stay in the hospital earlier in the week when he became ill, but was released only to suffer the stroke and be rushed back to Clear Lake Regional Medical Center for emergency surgery.

Christopher Lomax, 25, said his father was placed into a medically induced coma following surgery but has since regained conciousness and "seems to be doing well".  "He is just very tired and wants to sleep".

Family Spokeswoman, Galveston Police Sergeant Annie Alamendariz, said it may be some time before it is determined what the lasting effects are following the surgery.

Some physical therapy will be necessary, according to his son.

Blood donors will be received beginning at 9 a.m., Thursday, June 5th, in front of Galveston Police Headquarters in the Criminal Justice Center, 601 54th Street.

Blood of all types will be accepted as replacement for that drawn from the blood bank for Lomax.

In addition to son Chris, Carl and his wife Trina also have a grown daughter who lives in San Antonio.

Carl regularly patrols West Galveston Island and he serves as a member of police department's honor guard.

Additional information will be posted to The Police News and on our Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages, as it becomes available.

Update June 3, 2014

Carl is in surgery this morning. The surgeon is going to place a filter by his heart, to stop the blood clots. The doctor stated that this procedure should take a couple of hours without any complications. Please keep him in your prayers for a successful surgery. I will let you know when the surgery has been completed, he was in good spirits last night.

UPDATE: June 1, 2014

Carl and Trina would like to take this time to thank everyone for their prayers, well wishes and cards. Carl is making a tremendous recovery. Today all the tubes were removed from his head and he will soon be moved to a private room for further evaluation. He received a ct scan today but will not know results until his doctor has a chance to review them. When he get his room, I will post for all to see. Continue the prayers as he is not out of danger yet,he still has to stand by himself and use his hands, but so far so good.

Prayers for officer Lomax.

As far as what blood type he needs... It doesn't matter what kind you donate. If you tell the donation center that you are donating in his name, every unit he gets, of whatever kind he needs (whomever donated it), is at a discounted rate when the bill comes.
