Olsen Named Galveston Fire Department Assistant Chief

Veteran Fire Department Captain Assumes Assistant Chief Duties December 17

GALVESTON, TX (December 13, 2013) – This week Galveston Fire Department Captain Charles Olsen was selected to fill the position of Assistant Fire Chief. Assistant Chief Olsen will begin his new assignment on Tuesday, December 17, 2013.

Assistant Chief Olsen has served as a Galveston Firefighter since April 1991. He was promoted to Captain in 2003 and most recently was assigned to Fire Station #2 on Galveston’s east end. “Olsen has exemplified the meaning of serving your community and enjoying your job during his 22 years with GFD,” stated Galveston Fire Department Chief Mike Wisko. “He has
consistently demonstrated leadership ability in many areas and I am proud to work with him.”
As Olsen assumes the Assistant Fire Chief position full time, Interim Assistant Fire Chief Tom Winn will return to Battalion Chief on B Shift beginning Saturday, December 14.

“I would like to recognize Battalion Chief Tom Winn for his dedication and commitment during the past seven months,” Wisko continued. “While filling the position, Chief Winn managed the day to day operations of the Suppression Division and established a Training Committee which was instrumental in initiating our firefighter survival training. He also managed several administrative tasks including the physical agility testing process for the new Firefighter candidates.”
