A Texas teen fell off an oyster boat in Grand Caillou last week, and his body was recovered early Saturday, authorities said.
Rigardo Dominguez, 19, of Texas City, Texas, fell overboard about 7 p.m. Thursday in Bayou Grand Caillou, Terrebonne sheriff’s Capt. Malcolm Wolfe said.
Others on board the Texas-based oyster boat saw him fall and alerted authorities, who searched the water for several hours without luck, Wolfe said.
The boat is named the Sun Downer, but the owner’s name was not immediately available. Wolfe said he too is from Texas.
A fisherman from Dulac spotted Dominguez’s body about 1:30 a.m. Saturday while checking his skimmers, police said. The body was found floating atop the water about a mile away from the spot where Dominquez fell in.
An autopsy, performed at the Terrebonne Parish Coroner’s Office over the weekend, determined that Dominquez had drowned.
The drowning is one of several to occur locally this summer or to involve a local resident.
The list includes:
-- Al James, 11, of Gray, drowned June 1 in the swimming pool at Chateau Creole Apartments.
-- Tim Raines, 56, of Prairieville, a spear fisherman who was pulled under June 15 by an undertow off Grand Isle. His body was never recovered.
-- Justin James, 25, of Houma who drowned while swimming June 30 at a Cocodrie camp.
-- Scarlett Griffin, 2, of Houma who fell into a Gulfport, Miss., pool during a party after an older child left a gate open.
