FORT WORTH, TX - Officer Involved Shooting update
On August 20th at approximately 6:57 a.m., Officers initiated a traffic stop in the area of I35 (North Freeway) and Carver St. The suspects refused to stop and a short pursuit ensued. The fleeing vehicle was driven by female in her early 40’s and a male in his late 20’s was in the passenger seat.
During the pursuit, the suspects hit an unrelated vehicle at NE 28th and Deen Rd. There were no reported injuries to the persons in the unrelated car.
The suspects continued to evade police until they reached the parking lot of the Carnival Food Store located at Main and NE 28th street where they stopped, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers pursued on foot and apprehended the male passenger a short distance away where he was arrested for Evading Arrest/Detention.
The female driver also evaded officers on foot and officers gave chase through the parking lot of the Carnival Food Store. During the foot pursuit, the officer observed that the suspect had a handgun in her hand. When she turned and pointed the gun at the officer, he fired his duty weapon hitting the female suspect. The suspect was then transported to a local hospital where she is listed in critical condition.
To maintain the integrity of the investigation, the names and charges of the involved suspects will not be released until the investigators have completed all interviews with witnesses and suspects.
The officer was not injured and he will be placed on routine administrative leave during the investigation
