The McLennan County Sheriff's Office removed microwaves from the county jail in January without plugging holes in the walls where they were mounted, leaving spaces big enough to pass contraband between cells, a recent state inspection found.

The problem, which was corrected immediately, was among the few flaws noted by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards after a recent walk-through.
