DICKINSON - As the annual Mardi Gras celebration roared on Galveston Island Saturday night, Galveston police tallied 10 arrests of person drunk in public, but 23 miles north of Galveston, Dickinson police arrested 24 drunks.

Dickinson police had a special Mardi Gras detail, organized especially for those who mananged to slip out of Galveston without being detected.

A police spokesman said most of the Dickinson arrests were of people who had celebrated in Galveston and stopped in Dickinson to relieve themselves in local establishments.
