SANTA FE - Wednesday a 77-year-old Santa Fe woman who lives in the 2900 block of Avenue L, was the victim of con artists.
The woman was approached by an early 20's Hispanic woman claiming to be contracted to cut trees away from power lines.
While the so-called tree trimmer kept the woman busy, her accomplice entered the residence removing a large box and a safe.
The safe and box contained a 25 year collection of gold and silver coins that belonged to the woman's late husband. Among the coins were numerous proof sets dating to the 1990's. A large number of Krugerand and other various size gold coins were also included.
The thieves vehicle was described as a Maroon smaller vehicle, appearing old or dirty.
Anyone with information regarding individuals attempting to sell a large amount of coins is requested to contact the Criminal Investigation division of Santa Fe Police at 409-925-2000. You may also contact Crime Stoppers 409-945-8477
Santa Fe Police urge any citizen being approached by this or any similar type scam to contact the Police immediately. Police would much rather check out legitimate situations than have another resident victimized in this manner.
