In the past month, five local banks have been robbed. At least one of the robbers will probably get away with it.

Dave Shows, police chief in Vidor, where two banks were robbed in the past week, blames the crimes on the economy and a 10-percent regional unemployment rate.
 
"Without a question it is desperation for money," Shows said. "As people become more and more desperate we see more bank robberies."
