January 16, 2013 marks the anniversary of Gelareh Bagherzadeh's Murder.  Gelareh's family, friends, and community have mourned the loss of such a promising young student and researcher for a year.  To date, homicide investigators are still searching for her killer. Crime Stoppers has offered a $200,000 cash reward for any information that leads to the charging or arrest of the perpetrator.

At approximately 12:30 am, on Monday, January 16, 2012, Gelareh Bagherzadeh was shot outside of her home on the 800 block of Augusta.  Investigators say that after shots were fired, Bagherzadeh careened her vehicle into the side of the family's town home.  Bagherzadeh was found dead upon police arrival.

An outpouring of support from the Houston community has punctuated the year following Gelareh's death.  Community events and vigils citywide have been dedicated in her honor.  That tradition continues on Sunday during the first annual Gelareh Bagherzadeh Memorial Lecture hosted by the Asia Society of Texas.  The lecture will be presented in English and Farsi, featuring well-known psychologist Dr.Nehzat Farnoody, who specializes in helping individuals, families, and communities cope with cross-cultural conflict.

Friends and family of Gelareh will attend the event and make remarks.  Programming will begin at 3:00 pm on January 13, 2013 at 1370 Southmore Blvd, Houston, Texas, 77004.  Additional information can be found at: http://asiasociety.org/texas/events/gelareh-bagherzadeh-memorial-lecture

The media is invited to cover the event and asked to observe the Asia Society's requests about where to set up cameras while filming.  Direction will be provided on arrival.

This, the largest cash reward in Crime Stoppers' history has been offered for information that solves the case. This increased reward is the largest amount ever offered for a Crime Stoppers tip, not only in Houston or Texas, but in the nation.
