LITTLE CYPRESS - A student carrying a toy gun to school was treated as a real threat on Wednesday.
Little Cypress-Mauriceville Consolidated Independent School District officials confirmed the report of a student carrying a gun to school at Little Cypress Junior High on Wednesday. Although the weapon appeared to be real, it was later determined to be a toy.
Police were called to the school Wednesday afternoon after school personnel learned a student was reported to be carrying a weapon. School administrators followed protocol by calling police and activating the district's emergency procedures.
Police arrived and determined the gun to be a toy. District officials stated the student and "supposed" weapon were turned over to authorities.
"Any threat is taken with all seriousness by both the district Administration and law enforcement and actions are taken accordingly," stated Sherry Combs, LC-M CISD Community Relations. Little Cypress Junior High parents were notified of the incident through the district's automated messaging system."
