GALVESTON - Wednesday morning we were honored to be able to visit with another Republican candidate for the Office of Sheriff of Galveston County.

J.L. "Bubba" Campbell, a lifelong Galveston County resident from a law enforcement family which stretches generations, had coffee with us at the 61st Street Diner and over a cup or two of hot coffee, we discussed his reasons and aspiration for seeking, for a third time, the office of Sheriff.

Join us while we talk about the coming Republican primary and some plans Campbell has for the Sheriff's Office.

Comments:

As a longtime island resident, I have never ever met Campbell. So that is my only ding against him. When I asked who he was I heard good things about him. Thanks for the interview. It will help me decide between the 2 I am considering. Henry T and John Campbell

Really all the men running EXCEPT one would probably do a fine job. I just cant back a man that can't be loyal to his marriage and expect him to be loyal to the office of Sheriff.

After listening to this interview, I have only one opinion of J L Campbell.... A typical career politician who cares more about himself than his rank and file deputies! A "report card" to the Sheriff? Mr. Campbell, what next? Will you have your deputy’s hand out complaint forms with traffic citations? Sounds to me that you’re soliciting complaints and trying to find reasons to fire hard working deputies trying to put criminals in jail for less than 30K a year! Against Civil Service? There is no valid reason for a head of an agency to be against civil service except that you want to keep the right to "fire at will, with no way for the deputy to defend himself"... Your son, who works under civil service protection in La Marque, enjoys the protections of Civil Service... Do you believe your deputies do not deserve these same protections? I do agree with your idea of working with the Deputy Organization and for not hiring from the outside to fill vacancies in patrol or supervisor positions… That’s about all I agree with.

Reminds me of the words to a song! Another "JUST A GOOD O'LE BOY!...

Shortly after 911, I received a call from the military alerting me that I was being re-activated back to active duty. As you can imagine
what a nightmare of planning and worry it caused my children and I, specially being a single father. The biggest help came to me in the form
of my Boss, JL Campbell, He took me aside and told me that I was in good hands with JL Campbell and he was right. He made the transition from peace time
civilian to war time active military easier, reassuring me that my children would be taken care of and I would have my job waiting for me upon my return. True to
his words, he made that happen. I will attest that JL Campbell cares about the citizens and his employees. No better Leader, Law Enforcement Officer have I
ever worked for. Trust me, You will be in Good Hands with JL Campbell.
