Adopt a Shelter Dog Month

This October, during Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, League City Pets Alive will be participating in the ASPCA®’s (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) national #FindYour Fido initiative which is focused on harnessing social media to expand the awareness of adoptable shelter dogs and help them find safe and loving homes in the community.

To encourage local residents to #FindYourFido, League City Pets Alive will have $20 adoptions for adult dogs throughout the month of October. In addition, LCPA will be posting “Find This Fido” signs around the City which feature dogs available for adoption. Local businesses can participate by having a photograph taken in front of their business which features a shelter dog available for adoption. Contact Jasmine O’Keefe at jasmine.okeefe@leaguecitytx.gov for more details.

The ASPCA estimates that approximately 3.3 million dogs enter U.S. animal shelters every year, where they sit waiting to be adopted into a loving home. One of those dogs waiting for a forever home is Ford. Ford came to LCPA beaten and broken down due to possible dog fighting. He was timid and scared of affection. Fortunately, due to donations and the Dog Day Getaway program, where anyone can take a dog out on a day trip, LCPA was able to heal and rehabilitate Ford, who is now one of the sweetest and most loveable dogs at the shelter.

League City Pets Alive is encouraging people to participate in the ASPCA’s #FindYourFido campaign by:

  • Becoming a digital ambassador. Simply share profiles of adoptable dogs from the LCPA website www.leaguecity.com/lcpavolunteer or Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/leaguecityanimalshelter/ on your social media channels.
  • Participating in the LCPA Dog Day Getaway program and checking a shelter dog out for a day trip. Take them to local dog-friendly places such as restaurants, businesses, or just a walk in the park and give them a break from the stressful shelter atmosphere. LCPA’s goal is to get 20-day trips during the month of October.
