Officer Injured While Investigating Traffic Crash

TEXAS CITY, TX
(October 10, 2017, 4:22 PM):

Tuesday, October 10, 2017, 8:44 A.M., a Texas City Police Officer was struck by another vehicle while attempting to block traffic at the scene of a traffic crach.

Police Sergeant, Manuel Johnson discovered a two-vehicle collision in the 6800 of Emmitt F. Lowry. The collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of traffic. Upon blocking the roadway with his police Tahoe, a white Dodge Ram 2500 pickup traveling eastbound struck his police Tahoe from behind.

The driver of the white Dodge Ram 2500 pickup was identified as 24-year-old William Knowles of Cleveland, Texas. The Galveston County Sheriff’s Department was called out to investigate the collision involving Sergeant Manuel Johnson and William Knowles. Investigation of this collision resulted in the arrest of William Knowles by Galveston County Sheriff’s Department.

Williams Knowles was charged with Reckless Driving with a bond of $1,000.00. Sergeant Johnson was transported to Clear Lake Regional Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and later released.

The collision is still being investigated by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Department. Excessive speed and driver inattention appears to be contributing factors in this collision. Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision.
