The Freeport Police Department chased two suspects into Surfside that led them, Surfside Beach Police Officers and the Coast Guard to the gulf.

The two suspects abandoned their vehicle near Surf and Thunder and ran on foot to the beach. The suspects became boxed in by officers between Starfish and Oyster on the pedestrian beach.

Once they realized they could not escape, they decided to try their luck in the ocean and began to swim out to sea. They were later met by the Coast Guard who recovered both suspects and brought them to shore.

Fast response and great team work brought the incident to a close safely and quickly. Both suspects are currently in the custody of the Freeport PD.
