The cause of justice moved ever forward today for Riley Ann Sawyer, the toddler who we have come to know as Baby Grace. Jury selection continued this morning in the trial of Kimberly Anne Trenor, the toddler's mother. The Jury Assembly room was filled with 150 prospective jurors as both prosecution and defense lawyers try to assemble a final panel to hear the case.

District Attorney Kurt Sistrunk carefully questioned potential jurors in an effort to impanel a fair and unbiased jury. His presentation included explanations of what encompassed the charges of both capital offense and the lesser offense of, injury to a child. The jury pool was asked such pointed questions as to who already had a preconceived belief regarding the case and who could not in good conscience vote for the death penalty, should the state prove its' case. Twenty two potential jurors responded affirmatively. Approximately the first forty jurors were questioned individually and candidly and given the opportunity to express their thoughts.

Judge David Garner presided over the proceeding today with both a reassuring manner and tone.

The defendant, Kimberly Anne Trenor was seated between both her counsel at the table for the defense. She appeared calm and thin behind her glasses, with her hair pulled back and dressed in a simple white top with pink sweater. She appeared alert and interested in the process as she made eye contact with the potential jurors and appeared to be taking notes.
