Cops today are immature and shouldn't even own a gun. They kill first and ask questions later. I don't know how old the cop was that shot him, but I'd bet he was in his early twenties. If an older cop with experience was sent to the scene, I bet the guys life would have been spared. He would be in a physc ward instead of a county morgue. Great job officer. Now everyone gets to suffer the rest of their lives.

wow really... since when does age determine maturity??? judgeing by your ignorance you are late 30's to mid 40's... last I checked you dont bring a knife to a gun fight.... does a cop have to be stabbed before he shots someone comming at him with a knife? what the heck does age have to do with that?? our tax money pays for psyc wards and they are full of people who really need state help, not just people who JUST got diagnosed being bi polar... and if the dude killed kids in a school and was bi polar you would be complainng that the cops ignored his mental issues... get a life...

jules, a man wielding a knife is considered a lethal threat to that officer "regardless of his mental stability/instability". He is justified, regardless of his age or maturity, to protect himself against said lethal threats, most likely with justified deadly force.
jules, I would advise you take a gander at the force continuum model that officers use. It can go from mere presence to deadly force in a heart beat. jules, do you know how quickly someone brandishing a knife can close the gap between you and him/her?

jules, it's very easy to armchair an officers split second decision when you have the luxury of time and not having your life, or an innocent citizens life, on the line.

I am in my twenties...just very mature. You must be in grade school though, because you spell like one. I'm all for justice when due. If someone came at me with a knife, I'd blow there brains out. However, I didn't see anywhere in the story where the officer was attacked. Also, I'm a writer so this is my life...little person.

jules, a man coming outside with a knife is a man wielding a knife. Try to get past the racial epithets used, because it's probably irrelevant to this case. What's relevant is this officer felt threatened. Officers don't have to be rushed by a man wielding a knife to feel threatened. Brandishing a knife, refusing to obey orders, proximity are enough. Yes, it's very tragic.
