Suspect Shot During Warrant Service
September 20, 2018
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Officer Matt Maggiolino, PIO

Suspect Shot During Warrant Service (Follow Up)

Yesterday, September 19th, 2018, during the execution of an arrest warrant at 323 Waco Ave, a wanted subject threatened an arresting officer with a folding utility knife. This resulted in League City Police Officer Shane Yount firing his handgun, striking the man. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

League City Police Officers made contact with a female occupant of 323 Waco Avenue, League City, in an attempt to apprehend, Royce Leon Sedotal Jr. Mr. Sedotal’s arrest warrants were issued after he was arrested the previous night following a disturbance call involving an assault. Mr. Sedotal escaped custody prior to being transported to the League City Jail. After a subsequent search, he was not located. 323 Waco Avenue is Mr. Sedotal’s residence of record as well as the location of the disturbance and arrest the previous night. After League City Police Officers made contact with a female occupant of 323 Waco Avenue, they were granted permission to look for Mr. Sedotal inside. During this search, Mr. Sedotal was located hiding in a closet and instructed to come out. Instead, Mr. Sedotal threatened the arresting officers with the knife.

Officer Shane Yount is a 12-year veteran of League City Police Department, and as is standard operating procedure, he was placed on paid Administrative Leave. Galveston County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the Criminal Investigation.

LEAGUE CITY, TEXAS IS A LAW AND ORDER TOWN
As a former LCPD employee from long ago, I can attest to the fact that they are a professional organization.

The City of League City now has over 100,000 residents. It is a well off city. When I was growing up there it's population was between 5000 and 10000. It is the most Northern city in Galveston County resting against the Harris County (Houston) line. The growth has been fast and with the urban setting so close, criminals are visiting.

League City is a suburban Utopia with the Gulf Freeway running through it's center.
Con artists, burglars, shoplifters and robbers come to League City to ply their trade.

What the criminals don't know is that League City has a well trained and dedicated police department that is supported by a largely conservative population. In fact, there are more concealed carry weapon permits issued per capita in League City, Texas than any other zip code in the entire state.

I personally know several of the officers employed by LCPD and have worked on investigations with them. They are stand up folks.

Yesterday a LCPD officer was forced to shoot a weapon wielding suspect. This is the third police shooting by a LCPD officer in 2018. I noticed the press pointing this statistic out to it's readers. I say good. If the criminals read or watch the news they should consider this fact.

To all police officers that are put in a position to have to shoot a criminal, I say a special thank you for your service. People don't know the burden a police officer carries forever after such an event. They carry this burden for you. Protect and Serve.

That's the way I see it.
