Copperas Cove --  Today at 12:26 AM the Copperas Cove Fire Department was dispatched to astructure fire.   Fire department personnel arrived at 705 Mickan street and found a single family  home heavily involved with fire and the single family home located at 703 Mickan street was  also found to be burning.

It took firefighters approximately 1 hour to contain the fires in both homes.  No one was homeat either of the affected homes when the fire broke out.  Unfortunately, 4 family pets perished  in the fire at 705 Mickan.

A fire investigation was conducted and it was determined that the fire at 703 Mickan street wasthe result of direct flame exposure from the fire at the home at 705 Mickan street.  The  investigation revealed that the origin of the fire was a homemade wood burning fire pit devicelocated too close to the home located at 705 Mickan street and that the fire cause was ruled as  accidental.

The home at 705 Mickan street sustained major damage and the home at 703 Mickan street  sustained moderate damage.

Two persons lived in each home and all were displaced by this fire.  Red Cross has been  requested to provide disaster assistance services to both families.
